At Awender Chiropractic Inc. in Redwood City, CA, Dr. Joseph Awender and Dr. Veronica and the rest of our team specialize in spinal decompression therapy and other non-invasive, holistic pain management treatments. Our doctors and staff are here to help anyone who wants pain relief without undergoing surgery or taking medication.

Spinal Decompression uses state of the art technology to apply a distraction force to relieve nerve compression often associated with the following:

- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Arm pain
- Sciatica/leg pain
- Herniated discs
- Degenerative disc disease

The technique takes the pressure off of spinal discs and nerves. Once the spine starts to decompress, blood flow to the affected areas begins to improve while simultaneously restoring the flow of important nutrients. In this treatment method, we use a computer-aided traction system and a special table. We place you on the table, then adjust the computer to deliver gentle, precise, and exact hydraulic stretching. These adjustments slowly stretch the ligaments and the spine, creating more space in your back, neck, or other areas.

Most of the time patients will need a series of  spinal decompression therapy to get the full benefit (depending on the severity of the patient's pain). Most sessions last 30 minute and sometimes chiropractors may recommend other treatments like heat or cold therapy or electrical stimulation.

Who are Ideal Candidates for This Therapy?

Anyone who is struggling with neck, leg or back pain is a candidate for this therapy. Many patients say the treatment provided better results than taking medication or undergoing risky surgical procedures. If you're experiencing any of the following symptoms or conditions, you may find long-term relief from this therapy:

- Chronic back or neck pain
- Herniated or bulging disc
- Damage to spinal nerves
- Weak spinal joints
- Sciatica
