What is a Subluxation?

What is "Subluxation"?

When a vertebrae becomes misaligned or moves out of its normal position, this is referred to in the chiropractic profession as a vertebral subluxation.  Subluxations/ misalignments can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from a minor slip or bump to a car accident, sports injury or any sudden trauma or as a result of years of bad habits and poor posture.  When a vertebrae is subluxated, it begins to put pressure on nerves, blood vessels, articulations and everything around it.  This pressure comes with a price. The subluxation interrupts the body's natural communication pathways for signals and messages between the brain and the rest of the body.  These pathways need to be clear and free of interference in order for the body to be healthy and function correctly.

As time goes by and if a subluxation remains untreated, the spine and surrounding tissues such as the joint and discs can begin to degenerate.  This degeneration becomes more and more difficult to alter or reverse as time goes by as the surrounding muscles, nerves and bones deform and begin to adjust to the new shape. The body is an amazing machine. It will start to accommodate these changes by compensating in other areas. The longer this goes on, the more difficult it is and the longer it takes to get back to near normal position.
