Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling

Dry needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points (painful knots in muscles), tendons, ligaments, or near nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions.

Dry needling is not acupuncture or Oriental Medicine; that is, it does not have the purpose of altering the flow of energy (“Qi”) along traditional Chinese meridians for the treatment of diseases. In fact, dry needling is a modern, science-based intervention for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in musculoskeletal conditions such as neck pain, shoulder impingement, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, knee pain, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, or low-back pain.

Here are the benefits of Dry Needling:

1. Specific targets — Dry needling allows you to focus on the exact trigger points for your pain.
The needles can target specific injured areas to get right to the source.

2. Efficiency — If you have a busy schedule, then dry needling is perfect for you.
A session usually lasts 20-30 minutes and doesn’t require preparation.

3. Supplemental benefits — When partnered with other chiropractic therapy treatments, like manual therapy techniques, dry needling can help maximize your
pain management.

4. Minimal invasiveness — Dry needling is a less invasive option than other potential pain management techniques, such as medications or injections.
