Summer Road Trip Safety

Summer Road Trip Safety in Redwood City

Summer is finally here, and for many people, this means it's finally time to get out of the house and enjoy new adventures. Road trips are a staple of summer vacations, but if you're thinking about taking a road trip in the near future, there are some road trip safety tips you need to remember to keep yourself, your loved ones, and other drivers safe on the road.

Before You Go

Before you leave for any trip, take some time to assess the condition of your vehicle. Check the brakes, fluids, and make sure you've gotten a recent oil change. Also be sure that all of your tail lights, brake lights, and headlights are functioning properly. Make time for any necessary repairs before you hit the road.

Also, make sure you have an emergency kit stashed away in your vehicle, along with some essentials such as blankets, a back-up cell phone for emergencies, and non-perishable food items. This way, in the event of a breakdown, you can stay as comfortable as possible until help arrives.

On the Road

Once you're on the road, it's important to follow some additional safety tips. If you're doing any highway driving, make sure you're following the rules of the road. Obey posted speed limits, slow down in poor weather conditions, and always check (and double-check) before merging. For longer trips, be sure that you take turns driving with others (if possible) and, if this isn't possible, make sure you have a trusted friend or loved one in the passenger seat to keep you awake and alert. If you feel like you need a break while driving, stop at the nearest exit and find a safe place to rest.
