How It Works

The SpectraQuattro is an intense pulsed light (IPL) system that uses light to target certain chromophores in hair while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Using this cutting-edge technology, SpectraQuattro is able to safely, effectively, and permanently reduce hair growth with no downtime – and most sessions take less than 20 minutes!

For hair removal, light from the pre-selected spectral bandwidth is absorbed by the brown and black melanin pigment in the hair follicle and converted to heat. The heat permanently disables the hair follicle (and prevents regrowth) by coagulating the bulge and bulb of the follicle.

Prior to your first treatment:

Do not tweeze, wax or use any depilatory agent (hair removal cream) for one month. You can shave as much as you would like. (If you pull out the hair it will not be in the active growth phase – read below!)

Treatments are most effective on recently shaved areas. Shave the day of your appointment or within 24 hours before.

Treatments cannot be performed on areas with a sunburn. Avoid direct exposure to the sun, tanning beds or self-tanning products.

For best results, wait at least 30 days after a sunburn or tanning or at least 1 1/2 weeks after using self-tanning lotion. (If you need to be in the sun, use at least a 30 SPF sunscreen).

You are not a good candidate for permanent hair removal if you:

Have used accutane within 6 months prior to treatment.
Are pregnant
Have skin cancer
Have only blonde or grey hair – electroloysis treatments will achieve the results you require. Ask us for more details.

Hair Physiology

Hair is in one of 4 stages of growth at any given time; Anagen, Catagen, Telogen or Early Anagen. Hair’s active growth phase is called Anagen. During Anagen, the hair contains an abundance of melanin. Catagen is the regression phase when the lower part of the hair stops growing but is not shed, and the follicle is reabsorbed. The resting phase is called Telogen, during which the old hair falls out in preparation for the development of new hair. The pulsed-light treatments are most effective when hair is in the active or Anagen phase when melanin is abundant. The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to specific skin types and color, thickness and density of hair. System settings can be customized to most skin types and any body area dependant upon the individual need. Treatments are quick, non-invasive, comfortable and there is no “down-time”. Subsequent sessions are scheduled when the hair begins to regrow. The timing for this can range from six to eight weeks.
