This should get your heart pumping……… almonds are delicious, nutritious and help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels along with many other health benefits. Almonds are a smart and healthy snack since they are cholesterol-free and low in saturated fat.

Research is now showing they may also help maintain a healthy heart. While it’s true that almonds are high in fat, it’s important to remember that they’re high in monounsaturated fats, and this is the kind that protect the heart.

One amazing finding in nutrition research is that people who eat nuts regularly are less likely to have heart attacks or die from heart disease than those who rarely eat them. In fact, several of the largest studies have shown 30-50% percent lower risk of heart attack, sudden cardiac death or cardiovascular disease (diseases of heart & blood vessels) associated with eating nuts several times a week.

Data from the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study shows that women who consumed more than five ounces of nuts a week lowered their risk of heart disease by 35%, compared with women who rarely ate nuts.

Stay tuned for Part 2 where we’ll discuss how many almonds to eat per day and the best type for heart health!
