Sports Injury

When you think about all the benefits of sports, you're probably glad you participate, whether you're an avid player, a weekend warrior, or an occasional player. No matter how often you play, though, you're at risk for an injury. It could be from repeatedly moving the body part in the same manner, or it could stem from accidentally moving your body in the wrong way. No matter the case, Dr. James Monk of Monk Chiropractic Clinic, serving Chickasha, Oklahoma, and the nearby region, can assist.

Types of Sports Injuries

A sports injury could be from you moving a joint in a way it doesn't naturally go, thereby stretching the soft tissue more so than it can accommodate. Sometimes, you might overwork the soft tissue as you're active. This often happens when someone only occasionally plays the sport, and the stress of it affects them because their body isn't used to it. Some common injuries that fall in this category include tendonitis, sprain, or strain,

A repetitive stress injury is another possibility. Sometimes, tendinitis falls into this classification. Because you're always putting the tendon under that stress, you'll experience the symptoms continuously. Bursitis, although sometimes acute, can be considered a chronic issue in some cases as well. It happens when you repeatedly stress the bursa - a fluid-filled sac in between your bone and soft tissue.

Diagnosing Your Sports Injury

When you come into our Chickasha, OK, office, our chiropractor will ask you questions about the sport you play, or sports if you play more than one. Our practitioner will want to know how often you play, if you warm up, and how long you play per session. You'll be asked if there was a particular injury that occurred when you were on the field or court.

Part of your assessment will also consist of our chiropractor visually assessing the area to look for bruising. Our kinesiology-certified practitioner will also apply pressure to assess swelling.

Sometimes, this is enough to diagnose the problem. However, our practitioner may need to order imaging to get a view of the internal structure of the body part.

Chiropractic Care for Sports Injuries

We'll provide you with a care plan to help you heal. It'll revolve around helping you resume your activity while easing your pain. It may consist of chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, and therapy to release trigger points. Exercise therapy is a common treatment we recommend for patients as well, as is postural coaching and other lifestyle advice.

Let Dr. Monk of Monk Chiropractic Clinic, serving Chickasha, OK, help you recover from your sports injury the right way.
