What is Chiropractic?

Taking A Natural, Systemic Approach To Healing

Chiropractic is a natural, wholistic way of assessing and treating the human body to relieve pain and improve health. It's based on the idea that the body is self-regulating and self-healing. The body functions are, in essence, controlled by the brain, through its connections with the spinal cord and nerves that course throughout the body. When the nervous system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance and health of the human body will be proportionally diminished.

In the chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. We focus more on lifestyle habits, exercise, and nutrition. Drugs and prescriptions can be overutilized, as band-aids to treat symptoms, rather than going to the underlying cause and treating the cause of the problem. The U.S. consumes 70% of the world's medications, but we only have 5% of the world's population. And, we are no longer ranked as the world's healthiest country. While we realize that medication is necessary at times, over-prescribing and over-medicating has been shown to be a problem in the U.S.

We promote and encourage co-operation between the various health professions for the overall benefit of the patient.

It is commonly perceived by the public that chiropractic care is only effective when used to treat back and neck pain. However, these two conditions represent a small portion of what we are capable of treating. Chiropractors are certainly experts in problems such as neck pain, low back pain, and sciatica. But, in addition, our treatments are effective for headaches, shoulder pain, elbow and wrist pain, as well as pain in the hips, knees , and ankles. We also address chronic ill-health issues such as inability to maintain a healthy weight, lack of energy, loss of mental focus and concentration, among others.
