In the chiropractic world, we don’t prescribe drugs to treat our patients. In traditional medicine, too often, drugs and prescriptions are used as 'bandaids' to treat symptoms, rather than treating the source of the problem.
The US population makes up 5% of the worlds population. But, the US consumes 70% of the medications and drugs manufactured in the world. And, according to the World Health Organization, our standing, among the list of healthiest countries in the world, is declining. Drugs and medications can be essential in many cases, but their overuse seems evident. According to an article in the medical journal, Spine, approximately 16,000 people die each year in the US alone from the overuse of over-the-counter pain relievers.
