Headache

A cervicogenic headache, or a headache that is originating from your neck, is often described as an aching sensation at the base of your skull and in the temples. It is frequently characterized by a "band", or "vise-like", compression around the scalp. Cervicogenic headache is often produced by sustained contraction of the muscles of the head and neck or fixation of the joints in your neck. This condition can be the result of trauma, postural strain, myofascial trigger points, TMJ syndrome, or tension.

Chiropractic care is very effective in the treatment of this condition. In addition, other treatment considerations may include electro-therapy to reduce associated muscle spasm and pain, rehabilitative stretching and strengthening exercises, acupuncture, and massage therapy. We can discuss these other treatment options to design the best program to most effectively treat your condition.

Migraine headaches are another type of headache. Often the patient can predict the occurrence of these headaches before they began. Although any age may be affected, there is increased incidence among females age 10 to 30 years. Migraines may be caused by stress, excessive sleep, association with menstrual cycle, pregnancy, use of oral contraceptives, and consumption red wines, chocolate, nuts, or aged cheeses. Although these headaches are typically more difficult to treat than a standard headache, they often do respond to chiropractic and/or acupuncture treatment. In addition, dietary and lifestyle changes may need to be implemented.
