My Chiropractic Story

My symptom history: I have had some scoliosis from childhood on, and have always had recurring issues of back, hip, neck and leg pain, especially lower right back, hip and sciatic nerve. I am in my 60's, so this has been an issue for many years.

Symptoms and events bringing me to DR. C’s office: When I came to DR C, I was in severe and constant pain following an injury to my back that had occurred a year earlier. The injury caused more severe subluxations than I had previously experienced. The disabling pain was getting worse rather than better. The pain was mostly on my right side, from my neck to my lower back and hip (where the pain was most intense), and radiated down my leg. I had difficulty sleeping due to severe sciatic pain, leg cramps, and tendon pain. I tried going to Chiropractors here and there, but the adjustments didn’t hold. My insurance wouldn't cover chiropractors. I felt that I couldn't afford regular adjustments. I was terrified that I would become permanently crippled, and would no longer be able to work and live the rest of my life in pain. I was unable to continue my active recreational life and my employed life was in jeopardy.

Medications: I didn't use prescription pain medications due to severe side effects. Ibuprofen and Tylenol didn't help and I rarely took them.

Family Chiropractic history: My Mother went to chiropractors when she was little. When I was a little girl, she had me go to a chiropractor once a month. The chiropractor used a ''non force'' method. The improvement was slow, but the sway and pain in my lower back did improve over a period of years.

'Results from Dr. C's Chiropractic: Dr. C. got me on a plan that I was able to budget for while still taking care of my basic expenses. He put me on a 3x per week adjustment plan. I knew this was right for me with the first adjustment. It was the best adjustment I'd ever had; I was in less pain right away. When the adjustments held longer, I was able to come in twice a week, then once, then every other week. The amount of pain continued to lessen each week. The difference was tremendous over a period of months. A year later, I now get adjustments every 3 weeks . The adjustments hold except for some minor displacement that occasionally occurs due to the amount of heavy lifting/pulling and pushing on my job, and sometimes from gardening at home. Dr. C. gets me right back in shape each time. I am pain free most of the time. My spine and body are straighter, my right hip and shoulder are no longer so much lower than the right side. I stand straighter. I can walk without pain. I am sleeping at night. I'm physically fit for my job and my gardening tasks now.

My Recommendations: I highly recommend Chiropractic, and especially Dr. C. He has excellent healing hands and a caring heart. The good results from his adjustments are both immediate and long lasting He will work with you on a payment plan that will work within your budget and situation.

Allergies

When I was a child through my early teen years I used to have chronic food, dust allergies, and stress exacerbated it. I went a number of years ago to get a rast test which was an early form of skin sensitivity testing using pin prick with different liquid allergens on the tip to be used as a method to determine the various degrees of inflammation which was based on the size of the wheal or bump on your arm after being pricked. They told me that I was sensitive to "a lot of environmental substances" and should control my environment by staying indoors. What they didn't do was test me for food allergies. I suffered a lot during this part of my life because I felt like I was being told that the outdoors were dangerous grounds that I should stay clear of and I felt like a prisoner in my own body. The recourse for this problem was to go 2X/week for allergy shots which were supposedly designed to desensitize me by using the very elements I reacted to in a titrated liquid form injected into my arm to build immunity to foreign antigens I so reacted to. I built up to a very high level of dosage .005 and one day felt an extreme tightness in my throat as I was being driven home by my mother. As I told her my windpipe was closing up she rushed me back to the hospital. I was administered a shot of epinephrine or adrenalin to reverse this severe reaction. After this point in my allergy treatment I no longer trusted the conventional medical treatment and sought alternative care. As I grew older my allergies lessened (especially after I moved out of my parents house and somewhat changed my diet) but I still faced reactions to food which resulted in sneezing attacks and runny noses and copious mucous production. As an adult I looked up a reputable provider to in Marin County who dealt specifically with allergies from a natural approach. Dr. Carlomagno did a complete analysis on my condition from the stress in my life to my oxidative type, my blood type and of course checked me for pinched nerves in my spine and corrected what he found. He found that I could do exercises to relieve my stress and do little dietary moderation corrections to accommodate my blood type, oxidation level and body type. The whole natural anti-aging care program turned my previous health conditions around and improved my well being. I no longer have to stay indoors and seem to have a much stronger resilient immune system. I don't hyper react the same way I used to when exposed to the elements that caused irritation in my earlier life. Thanks for taking the time to explain what true health is and what is necessary to maintain it optimally.

Anti-Aging Health Care

I came to see Dr. Carlomagno after going through the traditional medical gamet aka (Kaiser foundation). I was given lots of meds, had surgery for a inguinal hernia and I was becoming more discouraged with loss motion in the joints of my body. I was also diagnosed with adult onset diabetes and had heart arrhythmias, taccacardia to boot.

With his specialized neutraceutical program my diabetes has now stabilized and my heart arrhythmias have diminished considerably. With the adjustments I have received my freedom of movement is returning and my walks are becoming longer and more brisk! Thank you for bringing my life back Dr. Carlomagno!

Back Pain

I am a road worker for the County of Marin and we engage in strenuous jobs that require heavy lifting of materials up to 125 pounds. One day while shoveling tar from an elevated truck I heard a loud pop in my lower back and felt searing pain into my right leg. I went to the company Dr. and he recommended rest heat and pain killers to reduce my symptoms. His diagnosis was a " a simple sprain strain of the Lumbar spine". I did this for 1 week and the pain was still almost unbearable with movement. I went back to the company doc again for reevaluation and he had to put me on disability for another 2-3 weeks. During this period of time while enduring this severe discomfort I was referred to see a Chiropractor from a fellow co-worker.

The 30 day period was up and I was allowed at this point to have one change of doctor and I choose Dr. Carlomagno. He was able to identify the culprit (via his exam and X-Rays that weren't taken previously) as a pinched nerve in the lumbar spine with associated subluxated vertebra. Within 2 visits I was once again able to move with only a dull ache into my butt which at this point was rapidly decreasing. In a week I was able to resume work on a part time 50 % basis. I want to thank Dr. Carlomagno for this life changing non surgical, non medication healing that took place. I am tickeled to death to be back at work in better health and great alignment. I have already referred 2 other people to Dr. Carlomagno who will benefit from his skill.

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome or Radiculitis

I was helping my son repair an automobile that had been in an accident and had coincidently played 3 rounds of Tennis for the first time in 20 years. I began noticing severe stiffness in my neck on the right side and radiating pain into my right shoulder. I was a Kaiser recipient and made an appointment to see my M.D. who prescribed me heavy pain medication and gave me a diagnosis of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). By this time the pain had continued down my arm and into my hand and fingers. I noticed a severe weakness in my hands and my wife said there was a pallor or sallow color on my face as a reaction to the discomfort I was experiencing. I was referred to a P.T. who said I had carpel tunnel syndrome from overuse of tools along with tennis elbow. He gave me traction, ultrasound and a collar for my neck. By this time 5-6weeks had elapsed and I thought that I was on a downside and no one could help me with whatever my problem was. The M.D. had even recommended surgery as a last resort. I was finally referred to Chiropractor Dr. Carlomagno from a fellow co-worker. He did a really unique exam and took X-Rays to determine that the cause of my arm and neck pain was emanating from the neck itself due to prior injuries. The trauma caused degenerative changes around the spinal nerves. These conditions hadn't healed properly. He felt that the pinching of the nerves from my neck condition could be relieved through corrective Chiropractic care and my radiating arm symptoms would abate completely. I began a care program with Dr. Carlomagno and within a week and a half saw immediate improvement. Before I knew it the collar was off and I could move my arm with more strength and feeling. I am very grateful for Dr. Carlomagno bringing my health around by allowing my nervous system to regain normal function without drugs or surgery.

THANK YOU DR. KENT CARLOMAGNO

When I first came in to see Dr. Carlomagno, I felt broken and depressed. I could not walk or adjust without pain and getting up was challenging. Sleeping was only possible on my side because it hurt so much to be on my back. I could barely ski for more than a few minutes at a time- if that, and only for several hours per day total not the 7 hours that I prefer.

I found that Dr. Carlomango knew exactly where the subluxations were in my lower back and corrected them with great skill and precision. I noticed an improvement right away and it continued to improve even better than I had hoped for. Now I am in the supportive care program and grateful for the ongoing care.

What I noticed about Dr. Carlomagno is his intense caring and willingness to help a person in need. I found his hand to be amazing. His precision was refreshing. His low back adjustment was truly magnificent .

Now I can ski or ski mountaineer all day or longer. I can do as much yoga as I like. I feel fitter and better than I have in 30 years. I even lost weight. I am really happy.

Thank you Dr. Carlomagno,

Dr. Michael Joseph

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

I was a data entry person employed by Autodesk who would work relentlessly on the computer typing for 8 hours a day! I started getting Carpel Tunnel Syndrome with weakness and a sharp stabbing pain while I sleep as a result of my overuse while on the job. I went to the M.D. who upon exam referred me to a P.T. The P.T. gave me exercises to stretch the palm open and suggested a soft rubber roll under the heel of my hand while at work. The condition remained unchanged so I decided to see a Chiropractor for treatment of this condition due to its huge success in treatment of my headaches. The exam determined limited motion. The treatment consisted of manipulation of my navicular and lunate bones in the hand. After one adjustment 50% of the pain had remised upon the first night of sound sleep. My motor dexterity had returned along with full sensation within 2 weeks care. Dr. Carlomagno's manipulations have improved my endurance at autodesk without harmful chemicals or surgery for the more advanced cases.

Children and Chiropractic

Thanks to Dr. Carlomagno's nutritional regimentation program my son Seth who was diagnosed with A.D.D. Hyperactivity disorder is able to go back to elementary school with the other kids. I am really happy that he doesn't have to take medication like the M.D's recommended that made him like a zombie!

My 2 year old Beth saw Dr. Carlomagno with what began as acute ear infections. Dr Carlomagno's treatment was effective in reducing if not eliminating them completely. The M.D.'s tried to use antibiotics which caused a rash on her skin and this ultimately didn't work.- They wanted to put tubes into her eardrums to clear the infection but I felt this was absurd! Thank you so much for your wiser, more gentle approach to correcting the condition not symptom.

My preteen Ashton was complaining of back ache and I bought her to see Dr. Carlomagno. He determined that the root cause of her problem was that she was developing a slight case of scoliosis (from being right handed and playing tennis) or 8 degree left roto-scoliosis. The M.D.'s recommended bracing. Dr Carlomagno was able to prevent further progression of this functional condition and further enhance motion of the affected joints. He was able to retard future degeneration and progression of her spinal scoliosis by adjustments and exercises that stabalised her spine. Today as an adult she is an active participant in the sports world and lives a healthy life free of pain. She still goes for regular care 1 time per month for maintenance. Thanks for turning us on to this wonderful healing art called Chiropractic.

Headaches

I used to be one in 10 Americans who suffer from chronic Tension headaches. When I was working under stress the back of my neck would tighten up and the games began. The pain would sweep over the back of my head and along the sides of my temples and out by the side of my eyes. I was treated with heavy medication through my family physician to no avail. One day I thought my head was going to explode so I sought the services of Chiropractor Dr. Kent Carlomagno. He located the cause of my problem which was a severe subluxated vertibra of C-1 and C-2. How this was diagnosed was with use of X-Rays when normal was presented versus my pinched condition involving the nervous system. Dr C proceeded to correct this condition via specific adjustments to relieve pressure on my spinal nerves and the structures impeding blood supply into the base of my skull and vital areas in my brain. Within 2-3 treatments my headaches had disappeared and my energy level began to return. I was once again able to function at 100% at my job and elsewhere in my life. Thank you Dr. C for your help in alleviating my problem; I feel great! I'm glad that Chiropractic can be effective in other problems besides only backache.

Orthotics

I had been in a motorcycle accident about 5 years prior (had broken my left leg) and had been diagnosed by the M.D.'s as having an anatomically short leg which had developed into a limp and a few months later hip pain and lower back pain. They told me that I would have to live with the problem and the only solution was medication and maybe bracing.

I went into see Dr. Carlomagno and he re diagnosed me after an exam to detect my true leg length as having an anatomically short leg! He said that he could help my short leg and the condition that had evolved through the use of orthotics. He built up a ½ inch higher orthotic for my left foot of which both orthotics fit comfortably in both shoes. He re measured my leg length which at this point became equal. I noticed immediately that I could stand up straighter and in a week my lower back, hip pain diminished. I am really grateful for the simple correction I needed.

I am an active participant in the running community and have had a problem for the last year (since the beginning of my running career) with pronation. I have tried many different types of shoes with little or no success. A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Carlomagno because of his extensive experience in the running world and successful treatment of problems of this nature! He found that I had a functional short leg which responded well to conservative care (which consisted of Chiropractic adjustments) and orthotics specifically designed for pronation correction! Well, the adjustments corrected my leg length inequity and the orthotics corrected my pronation condition. I have become a more energy efficient runner and since the have knocked a minute and a half off of my 10 K time! Thank you Dr. Carlomagno for looking at the true cause of my problem and not just the symptom- You fixed me !

Visceral Somatic Conditions

I decided to write this letter as a testimonial of the effectiveness of Chiropractic care in the treatment of conditions outside the main scope of pain and muscular problems. I came to see Dr. Carlomagno for problems with breathing and defication. I had heard from a few of my friends about the power of the nervous system of controlling and healing all parts of the body when allowed to. Dr. Carlomagno did his very complete physical exam and took X-Rays to determine if and where I had nerve flow impingement. He carefully explained the importance of a 100% functioning nervous system and pointed out the various areas of subluxation that would possibly be related to my problem. I was surprised to learn that the electrical system in the body was a lot like a fuse box in your house although much more complicated. There were in fact pinched nerves in my spine that related to the symptoms that I presented to his office. He began a treatment program to see if he could help amenorate my problems. Within 2 weeks I noticed that I could once again begin to breath easier and I began to hear bowel sounds that I thought had permanently gone away. Two days after this I had the most complete bowel movement that I could remember in six months. I believe my conditions improvement was a direct result of restoration of proper nerve innervation to these organs. I always had a pretty good diet before, drank adaquete amounts of water, got average exercise and watched my stress level so this treatment must have been the key to bringing my life around. I now understand the dramatic effect the master control system had in the body and want to encourage everyone who reads my testimonial to "Get your nervous system checked" so you too will have the ability to obtain maximum health! Kudos to Dr. Carlomagno for giving me my chi back!

Whiplash

I was injured in a hi-impact rear end car accident. The day after the accident I could hardly move my neck and I felt nauseated, had no energy like I was 100 years old. I sought the traditional care of M.D., which consisted of 1 month of copious amounts narcotic like drugs which got me higher than a kite and almost turned me into a junkie. After a lot of the pain subsided (while under the influence of medication) I went the Physical Therapy route which consisted of ultrasound, heat and passive-active exercises. The exercises were too much for me and I soon flared up almost worse than right after the accident. A friend of mine suggested that I see a Chiropractor to get my spine checked for misalignments and that I should see Dr. Carlomagno in San Rafael . He did a complete examination and took X-Rays which the M.D.'s failed to do! The findings confirmed that I did have nerve irritation of my spine and a more natural, gentle form of therapy using adjustments would be appropriate to correct my condition and resolve future complaints. I went for a series of office visits and upon the first reexam I was 100% pain free (without medication) and had almost 90% pre injury function of my neck and body!- Wow!! I want all of you to know that Chiropractic worked wonders for my whiplash and got excellent results! I wish to personally thank Dr. Carlomagno for his kind, thorough care. He has great hands to adjust with which will aid in your recovery.
